Unboxing Videos of the Verizon HTC Incredible 2, Casio G’zOne Commando and the Samsung Droid Charge

On Tuesday I told you about three phones that Verizon Wireless was launching today: The HTC Incredible 2, The Casio G’zOne Commando and The Samsung Droid Charge. Here are the unboxing videos from Aaron at phonedog.com. Just as an FYI, these might be the last unboxing videos I post. I have nothing against Aaron’s videos. In fact, I think they are excellent and until I can make a deal to get the phones myself I will still repost his. I just think that the announcement story, unboxing video and review video just is getting redundant. So why am I reposting these you ask? Well, these are 3 very unique and highly anticipated releases so I thought it would be nice to get a first look at each. Please enjoy. Thank you Aaron.-Bill

Update: As of the posting of this article, Verizon has announced that the Droid Charge release is being delayed. It probably had something to do with the LTE system outage and the fact that the phone could not be activated. I am hoping that since the Verizon LTE network is back up and running they will announce the Charge for release within the next few days. I will keep you posted.

Steve Jobs’ Android jabs may cost him App Store trademark

From JR Raphael at Computerworld

I was actually not going to report anything on this story. There are so many lawsuits going on out there that it just was getting too hard to pick which ones to report and which ones not to. Then my buddy (no, he does not even know me but I just enjoy his work so much) put out this article about the Amazon-Apple App Store lawsuit. Sit back, relax and enjoy.-Bill

Quick: When you hear the phrase “app store,” what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

That’s the question a couple of tech’s biggest players — Apple and Amazon — are fighting over right now. Apple says “app store” is synonymous with its iOS App Store alone; Amazon says the term is generic and can be used by anyone.

You’ve heard about this battle, right? Apple is suing Amazon for using the term “app store” (or, more specifically, “Appstore”) in the name of its new Android application store. Apple claims it owns the trademark and has exclusive rights to the term.

“Can you see me now?” Not anymore.

The spokesman for Verizon Wireless since 2002 Paul Marcarelli (yes he does have a real name) will no longer be saying his famous saying anymore. Verizon has decided that it will be going in a different direction in its ad campaigns. The “Test” man was named by entertainment Weekly as one of the most intriguing people in 2002. During his tenure he was also named the most recognizable spokesman in America. When he was first brought on Verizon was trying to make consumers understand how important the network was over pricing plans and “free” phones. Well, I think he accomplished that task. Verizon is easily known as having the strongest network and consistently stayed number one or two in customer activations during Paul’s as reign. Recently, based on the tales he recounted to The Atlantic, leaving the role may be a good thing. Paul once heard someone say “Can you hear me now?” at his grandmother’s funeral — as her body was being lowered into the grave. Yup, it’s time for a role change.

Verizon adds $50 unlimited prepaid plan

Verizon Wireless planted a bigger flag in prepaid this week with the announcement of its new “Verizon Unleashed” plans. Though only available in Southern California and most of Florida for the time being, the plans offers unlimited services for $50 per month.

Verizon Unleashed will offer subscribers unlimited calling minutes regardless of time of day, unlimited calls to other Verizon subscribers, unlimited domestic messaging, and unlimited messaging to select carriers in Canada and Mexico. Unlimited mobile Web is a feature as well, though the plan is not available on handsets that have full HTML browsers.

Apple Finally Responds To “TrackingGate”

Over the past few days there has been a lot of brew-ha-ha over TrackingGate (I made this one up. Maybe it will start a life of its own like AntennaGate did). After is was discovered that the iPad and iPhone were tracking up to a years worth of user location data and storing it on the devices and consequentially syncing it to the computer many people including congress ware questioning Steve Jobs and Apple as to why is was storing and if it was why was it not encrypted. Here is the press release from Apple explaining it all. Of course they deny that they are tracking however it does seem odd that they are pushing software updates to both limit and encrypt the data. Sound a bit fishy? What do you think?

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Video Review

Thanks to Jon at technobuffalo fro another great video. This time he reviews the Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet that came out yesterday. For the written review please see the link below.

Tablet? Laptop? Why not both? Sure we did a written review on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, but as people have been asking for a full video review as well, we’re here to deliver the goods. It is definitely a unique device on the tablet scene. Not only do the specs rock near the top, with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip, 1GB of RAM, 10″ screen, 5MP rear camera and Android Honeycomb, but it also does a trick — it can disguise itself as a clamshell laptop/netbook. A compatible keyboard dock accessory gives users some hardware QWERTY action worthy of high-volume data input.
