Twitter debuts official iPhone app

The iPhone app formerly known as Tweetie has a new name and a new owner.

Twitter hit the iPhone market Wednesday with its first official app, dubbed simply Twitter for the iPhone. But the new app is actually just the 3.0 update of Tweetie 2.0, which the company got hold of after acquiring Tweetie developer Atebits in April.

Twitter outs official app for Android;Twitter makes simple but full Android client

Twitter tonight brought out its heavily anticipated Twitter app for Android. The official client provides the usual messaging and media sharing features but, in contrast to some outside apps, integrates deeply into Android itself. Updates for a particular contact can now be found in any app that uses Google’s official QuickContact bar, and a cloud of recent Twitter updates will appear on a searchable Google map.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s spokesman says the Internet’s Twitter site is an “amazing tool” and a “fabulous medium.”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says Twitter also challenges him to boil his thoughts down to 140 characters, the maximum allowed on Twitter postings.

In an interview broadcast Sunday on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” Gibbs says Twitter allows him to reach not just reporters but tens of thousands of people curious about what Obama is doing.
